I didn’t disappear… life just got full. From mine site exhaustion to school runs, work-from-home chaos, and 100 km of driving in one afternoon—this is what real country family life looks like.

Life is never boring around here !
It’s been a couple of days since I last shared anything.
Not because I didn’t want to…
but because life just got full.
I came home from site completely exhausted.
One of those deep, heavy tired feelings that sits in your bones after a long swing.
But there’s no real pause when you walk back into home life.
Tea was already underway, and I stepped straight back in beside my daughter.
Chopping, stirring, helping where I could.
That quiet transition from mine life to family life happens quickly out here.
No time to overthink it—you just move.
The next morning started early.
Back into routine.
The juggle.
Kids up, lunches sorted, bags packed, getting everyone organised for the school bus.
There’s a rhythm to it, even in the chaos.
You don’t always realise how much you do… until you stop and think about it later.
Once the house quietened down, I moved into my home office.
Straight into my admin role off-site.
And it was full-on.
We’re onboarding and mobilising new starters at the moment, which sounds simple on the surface—but it’s not.
There are so many moving parts.
Paperwork.
Systems.
Clearances.
Coordination.
Everything needs to be right, and everything needs to be done now.
It was one of those days where the plan you start with doesn’t really matter—priority work comes in, and you adjust as you go.
Before I knew it, it was 4pm.
School bus time.
The house came back to life just as quickly as it had gone quiet that morning.
Kids off the bus, bags dropped, stories already starting before shoes are even off.
Quick afternoon smoko—just enough to keep everyone going.
And then we were off again.
One to dancing.
Straight into the car and into town.
While she was at dancing, I used the time to do the grocery shopping.
You learn to stack your jobs when you live out here.
Every trip matters.
It’s 10 kilometres into town… and 10 kilometres back.
You don’t just “pop out” for something.
Pick her up.
Straight over to football practice.
Drop off again.
Back home to unload the groceries.
By then, the other kids had showered, so I picked them up and brought them with me for the next run.
Back into town.
Pick up from football.
Another 10 kilometres.
By that point, everyone was done.
And honestly… so was I.
So we called it.
Chinese takeaway for tea.
No guilt. No overthinking.
Just one of those small decisions that makes a big difference at the end of a long day.
We got home, and everything slowed down.
The kind of slow that only comes once the running stops.
Kids settled.
Food shared.
Stories still being told, but softer now.
Sitting there, I realised something.
I hadn’t “fallen behind” on anything.
I hadn’t disappeared.
I was just living it.
This life—
mine site work, working from home, family, kids, kilometres of driving, constant movement—
it’s full.
But it’s also real.
And I wouldn’t trade it.
Tomorrow will come around again.
Another early start.
Another list of things to get done.
But tonight…
We reset.
